I am a huge Shania Twain fan. Her music has been a memorable part of my wedding and the conception of my son. In 2005, when I married my one and only love, and my bridesmaids walked down the aisle to the song “The Woman in Me.” We signed our marriage certificate, pledging our love “From this Moment On.” Then we danced the night away to favourites like “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” and “Any Man of Mine.”
In December ‘07, after a two year struggle with infertility, I underwent in vitro fertilization to conceive my son Lucas. I was listening to Shania’s music during the embryo transfer to help me relax. It was a magical moment. It worked!
I just watched the trailer for Shania’s new docu-series “Why Not” which will soon be featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network. I was sad to hear that she feels she has lost her voice and the confidence to perform in front of an audience following her split with her husband and the betrayal by her best friend. The show is about Shania’s search to find her way back to herself and her music.
We all feel lost at times. When traumatic times come to us in life, we put one foot in front of the other to get by. We take it one day at a time to survive. But at some point, when the worst is over, we do need to take the time to examine our emotional response to what happened, to learn, and to grow from the experience. I look forward to seeing the process Shania goes through in the show to do that for herself. I hope to learn something from it to use in my life.
I also can’t wait for the release of her new book “From This Moment On” in May! And I have a prediction. I’ll be getting tickets when she comes back to Vancouver with a new show! Shania will be back – I know it!
