Family Vacation on Vancouver Island

We traveled to Vancouver Island this past weekend to visit family in the Comox area and in Victoria and enjoyed a great family vacation there.

I was in the mood for some oceanfront dining for a date night so we had dinner at the Blackfin Pub in Comox (thanks to the grandparents for babysitting) and walked down to the wharf after dinner. It’s a pretty little town for a getaway if you have never been.

We were surprised and happy to learn that the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Snowbirds are currently training in Comox. It was really neat to see their maneuvers on Thursday morning. I think our son thought it was cool but I have to admit he lost patience for it after a while.

Next, we drove to Victoria and stayed at a hotel right downtown beside the Parliament buildings. One of our favourite stops was at Beacon Park to explore the Children’s Farm. The baby pigs and baby goats were adorable.

We also enjoyed exploring the Inner Harbour and downtown area. One of my favourite stops was the Murchies Tea store on Government Street. They served tea or lunch on silver trays and the tea was delicious all three days that I went there. Ha!

In search of something else to do that would engage our 4-year-old and not break the bank, we checked Groupon and lucked into a deal on admission to the Maritime Museum. This turned out to be a great decision with lots of interactive displays to check out including a pirate ship with a fun cannon!

We had a great time visiting family too but as you can see, we managed to fit in a lot of family activities on our mini vacation to Vancouver Island. I can’t wait til next time!

  1. Did you know Murchies has stores here in Vancouver!? We must go there for tea Queen Earl Grey!! I think you’d love the Island…

  2. You hit some great places! I’ve heard of Murchies from a friend of mine but haven’t made it there yet (maybe this week with her!). We’ve been to the Maritime Museum twice and the girls really like it. Beacon Hill Park is also a popular spot – there’s so much to do around there. And that’s so cool you saw the Snowbirds training. Wow! 🙂

    1. Thank you Bonnie. It was so nice to connect at the conference! Nice to make a connection over on the Island…you have to try Murchies, they also have amazing desserts there, omigosh!! Yummmmy!!
