This week, several Canadian parents including myself were interviewed by Dave McGinn, a reporter with the Globe and Mail about allowances and the relationship to chores in this article Should you pay your kids to do chores?

kids-and-moneyGiving our son an allowance is an important ritual in our house. Every Sunday, the dude receives an allowance of $3 which is not tied to chores or discipline or any other influences. My husband and I give this allowance with the intention of teaching our son about money and ultimately, financial responsibility.

It was interesting to read all the different points of view although it won’t change our approach. What do you do for allowances in your family, and is it tied to chores?
